GRACE can spot a lie faster than the blink of an eye. As the Republic’s Truthteller, she exposes defectors and criminals in exchange for wealth and idolisation in a floating city. VINCENT is the newly appointed regent of a mining province responsible for extracting the fuel that keeps Grace’s city afloat. As the miners rebel against the Republic’s brutal conditions—and Vincent dares to support them—he is summoned to the capital and accused of inciting terrorism and mutiny against the utopian regime. 

When a malfunction in the palace’s reactors causes a massive blackout, threatening to bring the city crashing down, Grace discovers that Vincent is immune to her magic, and claims to be her long-lost childhood friend. Now, they must work together to find out who’s behind the sabotage… but the deeper they dig, the clearer it becomes that the rot starts from the very top of the hierarchy.
